Monster Typer: Fun Learn To Type Game for Kids
Monster Typer is a fun game teaching children how to read and type. The user plays as a fun monster that is running. Jump over obstacles and enemies, collect gold coins, and read and type letters to get power ups!

The player runs into letter or number walls, which then prompts them to find the key on the keyboard and type them. The game is designed for computers with mechanical keyboards, not mobiles or tablets.

The player is rewarded with a power-up when they find the correct letter. This makes the task fun and rewarding.

The player comes across many different forms of enemy that run towards them. In theory, it is an infinite number as they are randomly generated.
This is, in fact, my first go at a procedurally generated game. New scenery and enemies are created in structured randomness. In theory the game has no end.
Why did you make this game?
I made this game as a fun way to teach my son to read and type. Whilst on holiday in Brazil I brought physical flashcards, but made the mistake of trying to teach them directly. They became a chore, boring, and difficult. By bundling the task of reading letters within a game, the same can be taught indirectly. After playing this game for the first time my son said, “This is the best game ever!”. I think there are a few lessons from that:
- Character animation – The player’s character is taken from another game, Catapult Master. AI made it randomly and I thought the big wobbly eye was fun so copied the code into the prompt for this game.
- Enemies – My son loves the idea of “baddies” and so gaining power-ups to beat them is a great incentive.
- Purpose – Reading and typing the letters serves a direct purpose with immediate reward.
I made the game using Google AI Studio with Gemini Pro 3 Preview.
