Count The Dots: Free Counting Game for Kids

Count The Dots is a free game teaching children how to count by pattern recognition. For 3 – 10 year olds, the player guesses the number of red dots (🔴) on a grid.

With practice the child learns to guess the correct number of dots without counting sequentially.

Why was this game built?

I used to do Kumon maths, the after-school learning programme. Count the dots was one of the exercises. I have a memory of doing these many times. And just as one learns to read the dots on dice, with practice one can learn to read the number of dots up to a great number.

The key is to count with intuition rather than sequential counting, via pattern recognition. And that comes with practice.

Why red dots?

The red dots are in the style of how Kumon presented the exercise when I was a child. I understand they may no longer do this exercise in modern classes.

I created the game using Google AI Studio.
